This page outlines your roles and responsibilities as a ropes volunteer in the Staging Area, the Training Area or the Main Rappel. Please note that all rigging and supervision is completed by SPRAT and IRATA certified rope access technicians.
The Staging Area is in a spacious room with nearby access to the training area. In the staging area are tables set up for harnesses, gear, radios and a portable office.
The training area is a short, 15-40’ rappel where participants learn to use the equipment and begin to feel comfortable in their harness. For a full event of 80 people, there will be two training rappels, each with one volunteer at the top and a belay at the bottom.
The main rappel takes place from a building 18 to 30 stories tall. Only harnessed participants are allowed on the roof area. At the base, flagging tape will mark the landing zone. There are two main rappel stations for an 80 person event.
